Custom Orthotics
Custom orthotics are medical devices prescribed by a chiropodist to support and improve the function of your feet. Unlike over-the-counter insoles, custom orthotics are uniquely tailored to your individual foot structure, walking pattern, and specific concerns. After a thorough biomechanical assessment, which may include gait analysis, range of motion testing, and a 3D cast or impression of your feet, we design orthotics that address the root cause of pain or dysfunction. These devices can help relieve heel pain, plantar fasciitis, arch strain, and even discomfort in the knees, hips, or lower back caused by poor foot alignment.
Whether you’re an athlete, someone who spends long hours on your feet, or simply looking for more comfort and support, custom orthotics offer a long-term solution for better movement and improved quality of life. Most extended health insurance plans provide coverage, and outside referral or prescription for orthotics is NOT required to be assessed and fitted at our clinic.

We start with a comprehensive assessment, which may include gait analysis, range of motion testing, and a plaster cast or digital 3D cast of your feet. Your orthotics are then made at a specialized lab and usually ready in 2–3 weeks. Once our clinic receives the orthotics, we will contact you to schedule a fitting appointment. Don’t forget your shoes!

You don’t need a doctor’s referral to get orthotics from a chiropodist. We assess and prescribe them in-house. However, some insurance plans may require a referral for reimbursement—check with your provider.

Many extended health insurance plans cover all or part of the cost. We’ll provide a detailed receipt that includes assessment, prescription, and lab information for your claim. Check with your insurance provider for more details on your personal coverage.

With regular use, orthotics typically last 2–3 years, but it depends on your activity level and foot changes. We strongly recommend a re-assessment yearly.

No, custom orthotics do not weaken your foot muscles. When properly prescribed, orthotics work to support your natural alignment, reduce strain on overworked structures, and promote more efficient movement. In many cases, they allow painful or fatigued muscles to function better—not less. Just like glasses help you see more clearly without weakening your eyes, orthotics help your feet function properly without causing dependency. If needed, your chiropodist may also recommend foot strengthening exercises alongside orthotic use to improve muscle balance and overall foot health.
